Exhaust help! New Y-pipe does not fit, '69 C2500 2wd
So, went to replace the exhaust on my '69 GMC C2500, 350 2wd over the weekend. I had ordered a new y-pipe, intermediate pipe and muffler from Walker. According to Walker, it should take y-pipe # 40336 which is listed for '69 and '70. However, that part has clearance issues on the starter on the passenger side as well as the a-frame on the driver side. Has anyone run into this issue? The '71-'72 part number is 40346 which looks similar, and is what I used successfully on my '72 C2500 in the past. However, I hate to just keep randomly buying parts and hoping for the best.
Any ideas here? Walker tech support could not describe the differences between the 2 parts other than sending me a picture of each. I want to retain the stock appearance, have no interest in custom duals or other. Thanks in advance! Last edited by johnbasler; 05-31-2011 at 11:28 AM. |

In all reality, you probably won't get much info from this gang. most of them would not go to single exhaust, and many of us prefer pipes bent up at local shops due to ill fitting kits.
Is there a chance that your motor mounts are bad, or is there a chance the engine is not mounted in the correct location? Wish i could be of more help. |

Motor mounts are good, truck is 100% stock. And given the clearance issue is also with the starter, motor mounts would not be in the equation in that regard. Given the fact I want to stick with single exhaust, having the exhaust shop fab something up is costly and not often good looking. If anyone has seen this specific issue, let me know. Thanks!

Re: Exhaust help! New Y-pipe does not fit, '69 C2500 2wd
I just bought the exact same crossover pipe 40336 for my wrecker restoration. I haven't installed it as my engine is still at the machine shop. Guess I'm in for a headache too by the sounds of it.
I did notice right off it's one ugly piece! The bends are lousy looking, it has dents in it I'm assuming to clear the A arm or something. It looks like the pipe has some type of bendable flutes or something for a lack of better words, not the typical bends you would see. Seems like poor quality for the price and the Walker name but nothing surprises me these days on quality. Lets put it this way, if you built this crossover pipe for shop class, you'd be lucky to get a D.
