New Track times

Well finally got the Truck to the track for some test and tune. Ran on motor only on 93 pump gas. Nitrous fuel regulator was acting weird so didnt want to spray it.
Had a few minor problems but in all went well.Weather was a bit warm mid 90's. Track scale was not open so didnt get a new weight on truck. Should be around 3,600-3,700# no driver. Had convertor tightened for N2 and was stalling at 4,000 from previous 4,500 last outing. So this time out ran close to the previous best motor pass(10.79 @120.9) with stall change. Was turning 6,000 @ the traps so with N2 should put me around 6,800-7,000. Other changes were 4.10 12 bolt truck rearend to 4.30 Moser Dana 60.
Main problem was not transfering weight well with the 1" drop springs, which I was expecting. Called Santhuff to order new 250# front springs to get the weight transfer and 60ft down.

Made 5 passes total and 2 best are:

60' - 1.53 / 1.56
330' - 4.40 / 4.47
1/8 - 6.85 / 6.92
MPH - 99.59 / 99.74
1,000 - 9.01 / 9.08
ET - 10.86 / 10.94
MPH - 120.75 / 120.26

nice runs. i noticed your second run had more mph at the 1/8 but less at the 1/4. this has always puzzled me with my cars or bikes. it seems to happen a lot with my stuff

Re: New Track times

Finally got back to the track to make some nitrous passes. First pass ran a 10.70 @ 123 on motor w/ 93 octane. I had made a rear spring change 200# -> 150# to check it out. Got a gopro video and another video of 2nd nitrous pass. Put some VP C-12 and turned the bottle on. Pass was 1.35 60' and 9.82 @ 133.6 on 1 stage w/225 shot . Guy in other lane lit both bulbs and when I rolled in and starter didn't give me much time to load up the convertor. Also 1st pass I pulled 2nd gear real early. So I made sure I didnt 2nd pass as you see in video. Was right at 7,000 crossing the line so convertor and gear seem to be ok. Also scales were open and was 3,820# w/driver. Now ready to finish wiring up the second stage and see what it will do.

Do you think the spring change in the rear helped... and did you get the springs changed to to the 250# ?

Re: New Track times

That much weight into the high 9's is some SERIOUS hauling bootie. Congrats on a job well done.

BTW, what is the popping at the top of 1st gear? Too much timing on the hose, not enough octane, rev limiter??? Any kind of misfire/ scatter and N2o would scare me to death.

Re: New Track times

Shawn yes 6.20 on the 330' . Had the truck out a few weeks earlier with the 200# springs and the rear just would not move , so went to a 150#. Marv yes diffently the rev limiter . This was the 2nd nitrous pass , the 1st pass I pulled 2nd gear real early and didn't want to do the same again. I have the transbrake button on the shifter and as soon as I let transbrake button off I pulled the shifter on 1st nitrous pass.

Re: New Track times

Hotrod yea thats what it looked like, but was only night I could go. Website says they are only open on Friday nights. Didn't they use to open on Sundays before and more of a race car crowd. Also Question .. since when do they not top a nitrous bottle off.... Guy filling bottles at the track said he could only fill an empty bottle... um b.s. They have a pump AND cool it off in an ice chest to fill the bottles. At 5$ a pound kinda sux to empty a bottle with 3-4 # left in it.

They are no longer open on sundays . Friday night if you want to get some passes in be there early and get the passes in by 8 then leave , as it gets crowded after that and things slow down .

Yes , you are correct the new policy is to not fill a half full bottle . They are just trying to get every drop out of the mother bottles and dont have the valve arrangements to save what is in the line . $5 Lbs is what they charge . I took them an empty that i had pulled a vacuum on , i explained it to him , had it marked on blue duct tape bottle in vacuum whole 9 yards . He walked it over to the bench and opened the valve . I was like you just lost that $50 cause not there is air in my bottle . I have a guy in Baytown fill mine . I drop them off he tops them off and calls me when they are done . HMP is your only sunday option .

Re: New Track times

Wheels up pass from Friday night at Baytown. Made a jet change (225hp 82f/82n -> 250hp 87f/92n) and dropped fuel pressure 7# -> 6 1/2#. Looks like some suspension tuning is next. Sparks are from lower control arms. Ran a 10.08 @ 127.93 w/ 1.44 60' getting off throttle and back in it.
Dinnut also made it out and helped out thanks.

Re: New Track times

Nice ET.. Definately more in it.

I don't remember what you have for rear suspension. Is it a 4link, ladder bar or stock style trailing arm.

If tightening the front shocks isn't enough, you might be able to add more antisquat by raising your instant center of gravity. More antisquat = less front lift.

Re: New Track times

Super73 , Truck has 36" Chassisworks double adjustable ladderbars w/ Strange egineering single adjustable coilovers w/150# 12" spring. Front springs are from Coil Spring Specialties custom built @ 455# and 14 1/4" length w/ a .660 dia. Shocks are Comp engineering 3 way adjustable C-2615 for our trucks set @ 90/10. Plans are to go double adjustable on back and 80/20 Adjustment on fronts. Really want to go to a Scotts or Nolimt front end to reduce weight. So staying with the cheap Comps until I decide if I want to stick with stock crossmember or not.

Re: New Track times

With how fast that front is coming up, I bet the 70/30 setting in front would be better than the 80/20.

How tight are the rear shocks? Have you tried putting a zip tie on the shocks shaft to see how far they are compressing or extending under launch? Might help to tell you if you should loosen/tighten the shock.

What is the ICG height currently set to? Perhaps try moving it up 1 hole and see if it slows front rise down at all.

I personally would try those things (if you havent already) before spending money on a double adjustable (not saying you won't benefit at some point).
