How/Where to Fill Axle with Gear Oil
Where do you fill it at, through the breather tube?

There should be a fill hole on the diff cover that also acts as a means of checking the oil level (level with the hole). What rear end do you have?

Re: How/Where to Fix Axle with Gear Oil
ireally depends on what make and model you are askin about
a stock chevy 12bolt has no plug in da cover// they have a fillhole on the passenger side of the center chunk that uses a square wrench, most guys use a ratchet with no socket to remove the filler plug// then you just fill er up

I don't believe it has that plug. I'll have to recheck but I'm familiar with chevy rear-ends which is why this one threw me.

Re: How/Where to Fix Axle with Gear Oil
It's best to use an impact on the filler plug to remove it. They can be real stuck and the impact will spin it out much easier than twisting it with a handled tool. If you get a tight one and try to use a long cheater, you'll likely round out the inside of the plug. An impact will buzz it out.

Ahh good advise, so a quick strong jerk is better than a slow big one?

I'm sure that there is some kind of wise crack in there somewhere.....

Re: How/Where to Fill Axle with Gear Oil
Look at it another way...
You'll twist a bolt off a lot quicker with a breaker bar than you will with an impact. It's not the level of torque, it's the type. Quick thumps are more effective than steady hard pulls.
