Hey everyone,

Soon I want to start with a rear axle flip on my '78 blazer 2wd.
Now i have givin it some thought and a few questions come to mind?
-how deep should the c-notch be in the frame?
-and does anyone know what the right pignon angles are and how exactly can i measure this correctly??

does any one maybe have a link to his tread for me with some good pictures and pointers?
I found a few but can't look through all the posts

first off no one I know of makes a c notch for the blazer a truck can be used with some mods.I am not sure I don't think you have to do any angle to it the rear end .as a cnotch a small one is all you need half circle.

someone told me that you always have to make sure that there is a angle between the pignon and the drive shaft?
So that the drive shaft isn't straight in line on the pignon to prevent vibraitions?
is this correct?
Any info on this?

yeah usually you will have to do atleast a pipe notch to the frame so when u hit a bump your rearend dont smack the frame as fa as pinion angle on bagged trucks rule of thumb get a pinion angle gauge measure angle of tailshaft of tranny and the nose of pinion on rear end should be opposite so if tranny is -4 deg rearend will be positive 4 deg

I thought it would get very close to the frame.
looks like some people don't like to bother to do the notch.
if the angles should be the same, how does this work the when you use longer shakles in the rear?
This because i used longer 2.5inch shakles on the rear on my '81 2wd.
but now when i get to 70mph it starts to shake in the back!
Also i put on 1 inch spacers in the rear between wheel and drum don't know if this could be a problem to centre the rim?

Shackles will change the pinion angle. Flip kits and spacers don't.

now i read somewhere that flippin the axle will give about a 6 inch drop.
Is this correct?
this i ask because im not sure what to use in the front.
I have 3 inch drop coils from energy suspension that i want to use and the choice between a 2 inch or a 2.5 inch drop spindel set that i both have.

I made my own notch for my 78 Blazer,flat plate with a half pipe welded on and made it a bolt on type c notch.My blazer sat really low and had to run the tallest tire I could find,I left in all the springs except overloads.My 80 sb truck has the same flip kit but I didn,t have to run a notch or a tall tire,go figure,must be different frames ?

will make the notch plate and flip kit myself.
I have the tools and stuff for it so no problem there.
does anyone have a picture on how the schock extentioners should look like?

how come that you blazer was so low?
i was thinking/hoping to run 15inch 60 tire

As for how much drop u will get in rear u fig u gave the thickness of axle tube plus axle brackets and thickness of leaf pack and that's how much drop u will get flip kits will generally give around six inch drop

well i want the blazer to stand horizontal or a half inch lower in the front.
don't like it when it leans backwards.

It's tough to say what you will need to get the stance you want. Springs sag over time so its tough to predict. I know its a pain but sometimes you just have to go with trial and error. A 2" spindle and a 3" coil will put it pretty low. You'll have to trim the bump stops. Most flip drops usually go with 4" total in the front. I'd say its pretty safe you won't be nose high with a 5" drop in the front. Clearance over speed bumps, driveways, and potholes may be a bigger concern.

Yes, we have pretty good roads over here with some speed bumps.... well i guess i will just have to take ik slow on the bumps then

Like said i have a 2.5inch rear drop on my '81 but dont think it's enough.
i am a bit worried that front tire will hit the inner fender though, i do want to keep them in.
