My 85 Burb

Just thought I would post up some recent pics of my 85 diesel 4x4 burb. A couple months ago I got the tube steps and visor on it. I'm pretty much done with the exterior except for fresh paint. Mechanically all it needs is extended brake lines for the front and I need to replace a solenoid in the winch. Next year I hope to have enough to rebuild the engine. This year we had the tranny rebuilt. For the interior I want to put in a rubber floor mat instead of carpet...like what LMC sells. As it sits right now it's on it's 3rd engine, 3rd trans & t-case, 2nd front end, 2nd rear end, and 2nd steering column. My next project for it will be finishing the roof rack. I want to make some pieces that from front to back on the sides. Sorry the pics are very good all I have for a digital camera is my cell phone.

Sweet looking burb I like what you have done looks great! Keep up the good work. What's the deal on going through so many drive train parts though been beating on it or just normal wear and tear?

Thanks! A lot of it I think was due to normal wear and tear. I bought it with a bad engine...figured it was parked because of a bad head gasket then the water froze in the block and cracked it. The engine I found as a replacament was from a junkyard. That lasted 4 years. When I had the manual in it the trans shop noticed the bearings were going out in the rear end so when I swapped out the that I did the lift. I converted it back to an auto so my girlfriend could drive it. I swaped out the front end because the ball joints were shot on the original one and it was easier to do the swap than replace the ball joints. When I had it n the tire shop getting the 35's they ran the VIN and told me the mileage on it was around 348,000 miles. Now as things go bad we are going to try and rebuild instead of find a replacement. That way we have a zero point...know what I mean. Thanks!!!!

Sweet deal ya that's cool makes sense completely. I have an '86 K5 Blazer that is a 6.2 Diesel and the 700R4 its sitting cause the blocks cracked where the starter bolts up due to stupidity from the guy I bought it from. That's why I was asking about the problems you had from your truck to see if I might have some of the same.

So far the only issue I've had with starter bolts was on my 83 shortbed 4x4 diesel. If I remember right, the bracket on the front of the starter worked it's way loose a little bit and one bolt broke...turns out that was the bolt hole my friend had to helicoil when he had the truck. I got lucky and was able to get the end of the bolt out without any problems.
