Increase MPG by 50-80% with a cold vapor fuel system?
I have found some interesting stuff that might increase mpg a lot.
anybody familiar with this system? PART 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xK8lP...ature=youtu.be and part 2 and this one looks interesting too:

Not likely to do much except take money from your pocket. Looks like most of the other miracle wizards out there.

I know nothing about this, but it looks similar to the high technology "wallet flush" system I have heard about elsewhere.

Set it up in reverse and you have a time machine.

Make up one of these and install one of those tornado things, and you wouldn't have to ever fill up again!!!

It's useless. a lot of those things are based on assumptions and not tested. The best way to get good mileage is to maintain your vehicle reduce drag and drive properly. vacuum gauges help.

Great, my Harbor Freight vacuum gauge will pay for itself. "Set it up in reverse and you have a time machine." HAHAHAHAHA. Good one.
Most of this stuff is gimmick unless they can guarantee or money back on a big increase. I really haven't seen too much that would really help milage besides tune ups, headers, weight, etc. Some guys say the tornatos work and some guys say they don't... I'm building a gas milage 83 4x4 so open to suggestions like these. |

Re: Increase MPG by 50-80% with a cold vapor fuel system?
1) i'd instead would be looking at raising compression "sky-high" (i.e., 14:1ish) and using water injection---this IS proven to work.
2) The alarming thing about the tornado pos is that both jegs and summit carry it or at least use to. This is wrong on so many levels. |

Re: Increase MPG by 50-80% with a cold vapor fuel system?
I already did a lot of stuff of which most didnt bring a bit:
- changed out bad spark plug wires (sparks were flying through the engine bay) - set the timing from 0 BTDC to 8 BTDC - fixed rubbing brakes - flushed a badly corroded cooling system clean - went from a fixed cooling fan to a flexfan - changed out the vacuum advance for one with a little bigger advance - changed from a open air filter under the hood to a closed air filter with intake behind the grill (colder and forced air intake should improve hp and mpg) - went from a 180F thermostat to a 195F thermostat, because my engine never went over 150F for some reason - i had the CO output of my LPG system checked and adjusted (yes I run bi-fuel system on my Chevy. I mainly run on LPG) nothing helped noticably...the only thing I noticed increase in mpg was *drums* changing from a flexfan to an electric cooling fan* it increased my mpg from 7 to 8,7-9,4 mpg Our biggest saver is at the gas station: LPG is $3,4 a a gallon while regular gas is $8,9 a gallon (crazy )

The biggest thing you can do to increase your mileage is don't abuse the fun pedal.

Re: Increase MPG by 50-80% with a cold vapor fuel system?
Back in the 60's, I bought spark plugs guaranteed to increase my mileage by 13%, a carb adapter that would increase the mileage by 23%, a spark intensifier at 17%, a vacuum operated muffler that sucked bad fumes out that would increase mileage by 12%and enough imported Swedish Luft to inflate all tires to 100PSI so as to decrease road friction by 92%. I had to stop every 18.72 miles to bail out my gas tank! Sadly, none of this stuff is around today. If it was we could stop buying oil from all of those rag-head countries!

Re: Increase MPG by 50-80% with a cold vapor fuel system?
Increasing the compression ratio to maybe 11:1 may actually help with CNG and LP engines. I doubt you would recoup your investment.
I never expect mileage gains better than .5-1% from any single modification. Anything past that is gravy. If I read your post correctly you were starting with 7mpg and the electric fan upped it to 8 or 9mpg. That is a 14-28% mileage gain. WOW Last edited by hatzie; 07-01-2011 at 02:34 PM. |

Re: Increase MPG by 50-80% with a cold vapor fuel system?
I see that your Suburban has the 3 speed TH400 transmission. One of the best things you could do to increase mileage would be to install a 700R4 overdrive transmission. Not only does the extra gear bring down your RPM's but the lock up torque converter gets rid of a lot slippage which translates to friction and extra fuel burned. Or even better would be to install a NV4500 5 speed manual transmission.
The next thing to get better gas mileage would be to install tall and narrow tires such as 215/85/16 tires. I'm going to do this once my oversize tires wear out.

Re: Increase MPG by 50-80% with a cold vapor fuel system?
Would using high pressure tires such as those found on one-tons help?
Example, Michelin XPS rib which can go to 80psi. http://www.michelinman.com/tire-sele...b/tire-details i know the ride will be rough, but let's forget about that for now. Do you think the high pressure would help mpg? Keep in mind these tires weigh maybe 2X a regular 205/65 r15 tire. |

I have already considered swapping for a 700R4, but I found that is close to impossible, isnt it for a four wheel drive?

I hook a tube up to my butt, after eating burritos, and I can go for 47 miles without touching the gas pedal

Re: Increase MPG by 50-80% with a cold vapor fuel system?
I don't know if the heavier tires would offset any gains had by blowing them up to higher psi. you could get some skinnier tires though, like 235's or less (as skinny as you can stand) and air em up. that will help more I think, just getting skinnier tires, and get them about 29" to 30" tall.

Re: Increase MPG by 50-80% with a cold vapor fuel system?
The 700R4 was used for both two and four wheel drive. The case is different between the two but you can use the four wheel drive 700R4 on a 2 wheel drive vehicle. However, you can't use the two wheel drive 700R4 on a 4 wheel drive vehicle. My 1982 Suburban has a 700R4 and 6.2L diesel engine and it gets 30 mpg on the highway.
