Testing my paint gun
I am trying to get ready to paint my truck, i have never attempted automotive paints and related stuff , so i pulled an old junk hood, with a scoop on it that i decided not to use, and just shot some paint on it. I still need to buff it out, to see if it will have the gloss that it should. So here goes some test test pics. lol

Re: Testing my paint gun
I'll have to say, for a first try, that doesn't look too bad, but be warned that's coming from someone who has only recently mastered the art of a rattle can spray job! I would think it's like anything else - practice, practice, practice. What kind of gun are you using? Is that lacquer paint?

Good call on not using that hood! Good job on your masking and painting though!

Re: Testing my paint gun
thanks, yes it is lacquer. its Duplicolor Paint shop Paint. The colors are performance red and championship white. I love the colors and i am definately going with them. The pictures are a little better than the actual hood though. The hood was blasted to bare metal then 2 coats of primer , 2 coats of red, then the white was sprayed over the red in 2 coats and finally 2 coats of clear. i have not sanded anything just sprayed. the color coats left a pretty smooth finish but the clear left it pretty rough. i have to wait until sunday to cut and buff the clear, per instructions on their website. but it actually shines well as is. if it will smooth and buff out well, i'll be doing the happy dance for a long time to come. oh the paint gun is a cheap campbell hausfield 14 buck ebay gun that i have had and never used. oh and i painted the hood outside in 95 degree weather, with mega humidity. (the hood is sitting on a wheel barrow.

Re: Testing my paint gun
From the pictures the paint looks ok id like to see it after the final cut and buff.. As far as the making of the stripes they look a little curvy but I'm sure on the final job they will be straight as an arrow.. I hope that don't come off wrong just a few things i noticed..
