Taking out windshield
I need to remove My windshield and Rear Window before I lft my cab for a full floor replacement. The Weatherstip is actually in real good shape, but being a full resto I'm surely going to need to replace it anyway. Should I just cut the rubber back with a razor til I can get the glass out fairly easy. Or consult a glass specialist for the job

Re: Taking out windshield
I forget who, but one of the members (maybe TXFirefighter) removed the windshield by working a small hose or extension cord under the seal on the inside of the cab, either all the way around or at least the top and sides. This pulled the seal away from the metal cab flange at an angle, and he indicated that the windshield popped out easy enough that he was glad he had someone else there to catch it or it may have hit the ground or damaged the hood (he pushed from inside the cab).
Was going to try it on mine if the guy parting out his truck here ever calls me back to come get the windshield he is selling.

Re: Taking out windshield
Just a tip: If you do decide to cut it out and need a new windshieldrubber go for the 'Precision' Windshield rubber. These fit perfectly.
I had to do it twice in the last 10 years and tried one from LMC but it didn't fit right at all. Cya, Edmond

Here is the thread dmack91 was talking about. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=210843 It works good if the old rubber is fairly soft. LockDoc

Re: Taking out windshield
Sure glad I found this post and thanks for the link lockdoc! I've got to change windshields before long and I was hoping to find a good way to do it as I have broken one in the past.

Re: Taking out windshield
Thanks for the link. We are going to have to do that really soon. Our truck has the trim in the weatherstrip. Does it have to be removed?? How about installing the glass?? Any tricks or tips? Thanks, Fred.

Re: Taking out windshield
If your just planning on taking out the old one right now then here is how I do it. I use a small rope and start at the corner of the windshield and work my way along the top first from the inside that is. while pushing it to the outside of the truck. You may want to have a second pair of hands to hold it from landing on your hood and damaging anything. but its not to bad to take out a windshield in these maybe around 10 min at the most. and if needed you can use some soap and water to spray on the rubber a bit to loosen it up. and a flat knife to break any area's loose of silicone or what ever else maybe holding it. just takes some working at a bit. but to put a new one in I would recommend someone thats done it many times before.
