Need Help! Where to start on my 66?

My truck has been running good for several months and today I was driving and all of a sudden it just quit on me. Luckly I was only a couple blocks when this happened. So the engine turns freely (straight 6, but not sure what engine i have), but I dont think i am getting any spark. How do i check? fuel pump? coils? Where do I begin? thanks guys

I would check voltage at the coil to start. Make sure you have 12v at the coil, it not, back up to the ignition. Depending on the age of the ignition, that may be bad.

I agree. If no power at the + coil, run a wire to the + coil from battery. Try to crank. If starts, bad ignition switch.

If you don't think you have spark, pull a plug and with it attached to the wire, lay it on the valve cover and have someone else twist the key. It should be a little blue bolt of lightning across the terminals. A weak spark will be orangish or it may not even spark at all. Do this and report back.

I think so...I bought new points but they don't look the same as the old ones. The new condenser does not have a wire compare to the old one. This new condenser is in one piece...i believe i got the wrong one....arrrg!

Re: Need Help! Where to start on my 66?

Yes, the truck will run for about one to two seconds on a good dose of starting fluid if fuel delivery is the only problem. It cant hurt to try it. If nothing happens then check for spark.

Re: Need Help! Where to start on my 66?

Ok, sorry, let me give you something else to check. With the air cleaner removed look down the throat of the carb and pump the gas twice. Do you see gas squirting? If you do thats good and move forward. If not lets us know.
