Starter issues
I have a SBC 350 with a OE style Auto Zone Starter. I have installed a Quick Wire Harness in my 66. The problem is that every time I turn the engine off, if I do not go pass the first click(accessory) and go straight to the off position. The starter tries to engage the flywheel and it makes an awe full loud grinding noise. I have checked my wires at the switch, the Starter and they are like there suppose to be. I have changed out starters, made sure the shims are correct and it still does it. I am feeling like it's back-feed from the starter to the switch. But what do you all think??? I need help......
Thanks, Keith |

Re: Starter issues
Whats up Keith... I am by no means an expert on these trucks. Heck I just joined a couple weeks ago, but I do run in to this problem on vintage motorcycles that I restore/repair. More often than not it may be the ignition switch is starting to fail. I have even seen a good condition ignition switch do the same thing with a worn out key.
This is my $0.02. I won't blame you if you ignore this post. Just thought I should put it out there. Good Luck! |

Re: Starter issues
Thanks so much for the .02 cents worth. LOL... I have thought about the switch but that is the one piece i've yet to replace. partly because it brand new from LMC. But I'm sure that means about as much as my .02 cents...LOL.
Thanks Keith |

Re: Starter issues
If you have an Auto trans. with a neutral switch the power to the backup lights can short to the starter circuit when you move the gearshift lever. Disconnect the backup light plug & try it.
