Yeah I was kinda thinking this as well but that makes it sound like there is a V-8 in it with the back two cylinders empty or something.
Terrible explanation.

Re: What??

Maybe you could use the other 2 cylinders for an onboard compressor.......
A smith compressor uses a ford 302 with one bank to run and one bank as a compressor.

Re: What??

GM must have ran out of 4.3 blocks when that truck was built so they just used a 350 block and modified it.

Still a nice truck though.

Re: What??

The 4.3 has the same bore/stroke as a 350. I remember when they first came out all the talk about it being just like a 350 with the rear two cylinders cut off.

Re: What??

A 4-3 is a v6 block, simple as that, there are not any "open" cylinders. The '85-up 4.3L V-6 has the same bore and stroke as a 350 V-8 (4.000x3.480), and takes the same pistons, cam bearings, main bearings, valvetrain parts, timing cover, oil pump, and front dress.

Re: What??

The 229 has a bore/stroke the same as a 305 whereas the 4.3 has a bore/stroke the same as a 350. 305 parts are interchangable with the 229 and 350 parts are interchangeable with a 4.3.
