Shock suggestions please

Was wanting to replace all 4 shocks on my heap. I dont do any hauling in it and it's an 87 1/2 ton silverado. I'm wanting a smooth ride with them.I was thinking about going with summit racings pro-comp 3000's. They are like $38.00 ea. I'm looking for feedback from anybody that used these shocks or recommend something that isnt an arm and a leg for. Thanks in advance.

I used Rancho 5000's on my 83 K5 diesel Jimmy. I was pleased enough with the ride. Now that they've got over 100K miles on them, they are probably due for replacement.

With the short WB and heavy axles, there is a real limitation as to how much ride quality can be obtained. That is one of the trade-off's for driving such a vehicle.

But of all the vehicles I've owned, the Jimmy is probably my favorite even though it is getting old an decrepit in many ways. It turns "on a dime", gets in the low 20's for fuel economy, will pull a good sized cargo, farm or camping trailer with its Banks turbo and Pull-Rite hitch and is easy to do repairs on.

My wife would like a new (or newer) Yukon, but I kinda' like the simplicity of the older one. I've already installed Cadillac bucket seats in it. Maybe some new KYB shocks might just make it a "keeper" for a bunch more years!

I say go to your local autozone type store and purchase the cheapest replacements shocks. You'll pay about 25 a piece, no waiting on delivery and they'll do what every other shock does on stock suspension.

I second this suggestion. I'm in this process right now, looking for gas shocks as well. Every shop or mechanic says, "get oem replacements or equivalents..." They all do the same basic job if you're not looking for a performance upgrade.

Yep unless you are lowered or lifted theres honestly no need to send the extra 10 bucks per shock...OEM replacement all the way on a stock suspension.

Carquests 'house' brand shocks are KYB GR-2's. Very good shock for average price.

The best shocks I had on a 1/2 ton 2000 Silverado were Edelbrock IAS shocks, but very pricey. So, I suggest that you check the GM OEM websites to see what the stock shocks cost: oewarehouse, oehq, autopartstomorrow, etc. I have some heavy duty Monroes on my 83 C20 which were on the truck when I bought it 8 years ago - still going strong and I have maxed out the payload many times - ride very well for a 3/4 ton.
