Body parts
Hello everyone I just joined this forum because I recently purchased a 1970 Jimmy. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a question I have. My jimmy needs some body work and I have parts trucks (pickups) to use. Will the fenders off a 72' gmc pickup fit on my Jimmy? Also the back quarter section of a fleet side and my Jimmy look the same. do these match up aswell?
Thanks |

Re: Body parts
All GMC fenders are the same except the 67 without the side marker. The fleetside bed side can be used as a replacement if it's a shortbed. There is a slight difference on the front bottom of the wheel well. A long bed section for the rear couple feet might also work, but might need a little hammer work to align it.

Re: Body parts
Welcome to the site. Good to see another BC boy here. Which Jimmy did you buy? I know of 5 that were on CL the past month.
Good luck with the build and take lots of pics. Nate

Re: Body parts
Hey guys thanks for the replies. I bought the 1970 jimmy from Mission, its on 35'' super swampers, 454 bb, 3/4 running gear, 4 disc brake conversion, 4 speed. All the mechanical stuff is pretty good but the body just needs some work. I also cant get my fuel gauge working, it reads well above full all the time. I have been reading some posts on here about it and been testing and what not. I just have to do the ohm test but I am pretty sure I need a new sending unit. thanks again guys.

Re: Body parts
Make sure you have a good ground first. You should be able to reach it from underneath.

Re: Body parts
I see a ground coming from the unit housing going to the frame. I cleaned the end that attaches to the frame and put it back on but it made no difference. I also did the ohm test and it read about 9.5 and that seems about right for the amount of gas I have in it. Do you think maybe its not making good enough ground to the tank/unit housing? I talked to alot of people and they say most of the time its a wire or something and that the sending units are usually good to go.

Re: Body parts
If you can reach the tank end if the wire and check the connection, then try it. The last one I messed with had a bad float, which would indicate empty if working. Sometimes the gages fail though or the printed circuit on the back of the gage set.
