Which LS mounting plates? Help
I'm trying to decide which engine mounts to build for my engine install.
This is my motor mount stand style (73 up I think) Clamshell mounts. Bobs pics borrowed. I need to know which one of these 1, 2, or 3 with a 67 frame with 4.8ls with stock AC compressor location and 4L60E tranny. I want my engine to be in the optimum position to use the original driveshaft if possible. I really don't want to cut my frame either. Anyone use this setup on their swap? Help? |

Re: Which LS mounting plates? Help
well....your trans will be a bit longer, so if you have clearance up front, maybe you need #2. Are you planning on using the clutch fan or going to e-fans?
That said, I used #1 on mine and got a new d/s made.

Not sure what fan yet. What did a an 03 engine have on it? electric or cluctch? I can't remember if I have a fan or not? Probably just go electric more than likely.

Re: Which LS mounting plates? Help
I can't remember when they started. I had a dual e-fan setup on my '01 Sierra C3 that came from a newer truck... but not sure of what year. My '01 PCM had no problem running them tho.

Re: Which LS mounting plates? Help
Are you planning on using the lsx A/C compressor in the stock location?
If so: #1 won't work #2 probably won't work #3 should work. I made my own adapter plates (style #3) on some tubular engine stands. I have a set of adapter plates like style #2, but they would not work cause of the A/C compressor. That being said, I have an F-body A/C compressor on corvette accessories. So the truck set up may be slightly different sized and allow you to run that set up. Also, My engine stands are set back as far as possible. Can't remember if that is considered the "6 cylinder position" or not. |

I have considered using the 6 cyl. position. I'm just trying to cut corners and hoping to find someone with the same setup I want to use. That way I can just make one set and be done.

Re: Which LS mounting plates? Help
Did any of you guys actually make a drawing of any these plates when you made your own? In Bob's thread I found 5/16" thick by 4.25" plates but didn't find dimensions for the length and how far from the edges to put the hole patterns?

Re: Which LS mounting plates? Help
I just kinda made them by taking some measurements off the engine and mounts:

I want to build the plates mount them up and go if possible. I am pretty short on my engineering patients right now. I will make a drawing once I get some that work and post it up on Bob's thread. |

Re: Which LS mounting plates? Help
I could swear I saw a drawing with all the dimensions for them somewhere.

Re: Which LS mounting plates? Help
Thanks. I saw these drawings. But they don't give the dimensions of the plates and the hole patterns relative to the edges of the plates.
