some folks say the under dash ash tray is worth $300.00 and the in dash A/C vents are worth that much, but this truck is a custom and it even has the A/c sticker in the back window.........also lets just say I did not pay any more than what the crusher would have paid for it. |

Well Keith it sounds like you got suckered in the "Ole 66' Just Can't Scrap It Scheme" and that truck is worth nuthin. Lucky for you I'm in a generous mood and will mosey on up to Tulsa and give you two hundred dollars for that ole heap. Just so you don't have to tell the wife how much you were taken for my friend.

Well I was considering giving you the hood ornament that I got the other day but if you have to diss me I may just keep it and put it on this truck !!!!!! Just Kidding..............................I could not keep from buying it......the only option it does not have is power brakes..........the icing on the cake is that it had the a/c sticker in the back window.....and all the glass is good, now I just have to find a grille and a tailgate.....but wait I could turn it into a SWB BBW fleetside..........that would be rarer still... OMG I have turned into a 64-66 addict.......can I go to rehab------Betty Ford Center----I am not sure they can treat this addiction........ |

Re: 1966 score of the day
That is AWESOME!!!
I'd say you scored HUGE! If the buying price is what scrap price goes for (which if memory serves me right is about $250-$300) you got a killer deal, my friend. I would tell everybody that you bought an underdash ashtray and the guy threw the rest of the truck in for free. Just the A/C -only crank pulley and A/C compressor brackets are worth nearly double of what you probably paid for the entire truck. That stuff is almost impossible to find. Next question.....will it run? I'd see if it'll run, and if it does, I'd give it a 100% top-to-bottom bath and leave it as is. Maybe refresh the safety items like the brakes and tires, but install an aluminum grille and leave that killer patina on it. I keep shaking my head as I type this.....you got such a great deal AND you saved that truck from certain death!! Fricken scrappers............

Re: 1966 score of the day
Now it's only fair that you have to find each of us a deal now, should have kept it to yourself. Great find, lots of original options on it, I like that. The ash tray also came as an option on Impala's I think, I'll have to look that up. Those driving lights on the front bumper, could we get a close up picture of them? Saw some similar in my 62 Custom Accessories Book. You'll enjoy the easy eye glass on a sunny day.

Re: 1966 score of the day
The guy who saved it was a wrecker driver, he said he could not take it to the crusher, nice guy, he is going to keep his eye out for more deals like this, I of course did not mention all the rare accessories, He said it needs a coil to make it run, I just happen to have one........will work on that after we get my GMC finished. 1 project at a time. Re: 1966 score of the day
The wrecker drivers are definately good guys to know, especially nowadays. The economy is so bad that alot of the projects that were stashed in people's backyards are now being sold as scrap because folks need the money. I was at my favorite wrecking yard last weekend, and there a line of rollbacks with cars on them waiting to drop them off. The holding lot where they process the cars in this particular yard is at least 5 acres and it's nearly 100% full. I peeked through the fence, and there are some really cool cars in there. Lots of 67-72 trucks, 73-87 trucks, '60s Cadillacs, etc. They even had a 1965 Buick Skylark wagon with a perfect body that they are wanting to sell complete. It even has the cool Vista Cruiser windows in the top. it would make a killer cruiser. Not sure what the price was, though.
So, if you have a self-service yard close by, I would suggest for you to start going on "recon" missions every chance you get. There is a constant turn-over of cars, so that means if you snooze, you lose. I shudder to think at all of the cool parts that are getting crushed before anyone could get their hands on them.

Re: 1966 score of the day
Unbelievable! One of those incredible finds that just fall into a persons lap. There is so much demand for those factory a/c dash vents, and so very few available. Good for you.
