I have a new gas tank and i have questions
ive been trying to get this truck to where i can just drive it for months now.
i do not have a original gas tank to look at, ive been using a 5 gal gas can in the truck to move it around, i ordered a new poly tank from gmcpauls its a MTS tank, i have been searching to see what i can find about installing it im not having much luck, what kinda problems am i gonna have? and it has 3 brass fittings am i suppose to have 3 hoses for them? and the small hose that comes from the filler neck where is it suppose to go? my exhaust is gonna be very close to the tank. it says on the tank the exhaust can not be within 3 inches from the tank so i guess im gonna have to cut it behind the mufflers and turn it out or down i thought this was gonna be the easy part, lol thanks for any help |

Re: I have a new gas tank and i have questions
The brass is for the vent hoses...I don't have any pics too share. Try and search this site we have talked about this before so it should be here somewere...
I installed a poly tank long time ago and the only mod I had to do was the filler neck on the poly tank is much shorter than the steel one. So you will need a longer fill hose. Good Luck

Re: I have a new gas tank and i have questions
well i just got the tank in there today. it was pretty easy i dont have a body lift and i had no problems with the filler neck hose, i just went and bought a 1-3/8 filler neck hose i guess it was about 3ft long worked just fine i had to cut off the extra. i was worried about it because everything i was reading about it said how hard it was to get the straps to work and the filler neck hose but there was nothing to it.

Re: I have a new gas tank and i have questions
another idea on a gas tank for the blazers, I did this to a '71 I used to have.
I removed the old original tank and got a 31 gallon tank from the junk yard. I welded a piece of angle across the frame after measuring straps and all that and then put the bigger tank up in there, the rear strap mounts work and then just drilled holes in the angle up front. fits nice and it gives you 31 gallon capacity. the only problem was the filler neck is on the other side, so I had a friend move the filler neck to the drivers side of the tank, the tank was empty and rinsed but we pumped Co2 into the tank while welding to stay away from a fire....lol |
