Questions about my 71..

So I am working on bringing back my 71 c10 from the abuse of many so cal construction sites and I am wondering.. What is this hole for? I am planning on running a v8 and a auto tranny so can I patch it?? The PO had a piece of aluminum riveted over it...

Also, the truck had a 70 front clip on it when I got it and I am worried its been hit.. Does the frame look tweeked to you?? I am hoping it is ok cuz I dont wanna have to go through the trouble in having a frame shop mess with it.

Re: Questions about my 71..

The hole in the firewall is for a clutch rod. Since you are going to use an automatic transmission you will not be using the hole. You can go ahead and patch it.

Sorry I can't help you with the frame question. I'm sure someone will tell you to take some measurements to see if the frame is true.

Good luck,

Keith

Re: Questions about my 71..

I would be inclined to find a straight donor frame. They are very available and for $200-$500 you can have a roller.

Re: Questions about my 71..

She is nothing special according to the vin but the numbers on the frame match the cab. Is it worth it to have it straightened?

Re: Questions about my 71..

depends on how much they want to straighten it i have a good frame from a 71 two wheel drive five lug front suspension is gone and was gonna turn bed and rear frame into trailer but might consider selling frame if you wanted to go that way and we are not to far apart but it would be a drive

If it were a Corvette, or a Chevelle... sure. It's just an old truck... a new frame would be your best bet.

Re: Questions about my 71..

Will a frame with different numbers present a problem with the dmv when I go to register it?

Re: Questions about my 71..

You will probably have to register the truck as whatever the year of the frame you use. If it's the same year as the body... shouldn't be a prob. Key word there though is "shouldn't".

Haul it to a reputable frame shop when you have it down to a roller. Laser measure runs about $100.00-$125.00.
Aligning my frame cost me $375.00. My frame was pretty bad but it was amazingly straight-way beyond what factory tolerances were 40 years ago.
