lug nut question
I've been searching, but stilii confused. i have a 67 3/4 ton 4x4, drums all the way the around. It has aftermarket alluminum wheels on 3 corners, steelie on 1. the lug nuts holding the steelie on are the same as whats on the alluminum rims. Has been fine for bouncing around the pasture, but I'm getting her back on the road next week, I hope. I can't figure out which lug nuts I need to get for the steelie. I've seen 9/16, but also seen 9/16 was 71-72.
What should it be? I need to get some tomorrow. Thanks.

Re: lug nut question
1/2 inch
I would remove one of the mad lug nuts, and look at the end of it. More often than not, the taper is the same on the steel wheel and on the shanked style lug nuts. I have literally gone thousands of miles like that. |

Re: lug nut question
Thanks ya'll. I'll take one in town with me, but seems like most of the parts stores nowadays just have things hanging on a peg, no one knows anything except how to look something up on a computer, if it ain't there it doesn't exist. I doubt if any of the ones closest to me have any studs to check the lug nut on.
The taper looks similar, but I didn't like the feel of it when I put the steel rim on, I feel certain it needs a plain old lug nut. I may end up going to all steelies anyway. Thanks again.

Re: lug nut question
Just use a tape measure on the stud, or calipers if you have them...

Re: lug nut question
Found some at the parts store. Looked exactly like the one I had taken off. For $2/each for the plain old factory style open nuts, I decided to use what I had. I re-tightened them, and it felt better this time too.
