tall valve covers and alt bracket question
I am running tall valve covers, short water pump, factory brackets/pulleys. The factory 69-72 truck upper alt bracket wont work with the tall covers. I have also tried the earlier model upper bracket that is straighter and longer and it also will not work. Just wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem and if ya know of another style of upper bracket that will work. Not going aftermarket because I am going to have power steering and do not like the aftermarket setups for power steering. Here is a pic of the valver covers.

Re: tall valve covers and alt bracket question
Yes I had the same problem what I had to do was grind the back of the alt to clear and also have to remove the valve cover if I want to take off the belt. I put rtv on the side of the gasket that mates to the valve cover and dry on the other side takes ten minutes and easy. oh did nt harm the alt in any way by grinding it doesnt take much if I have time i will post a pic for ya to look at.

Re: tall valve covers and alt bracket question
When I used Vortec heads I had the same kind of problem. I now buy all my brackets from Alan Grove Components. Found there name in a street rod magazine. Online catalog check out short water pump small block and vortec heads. I just bought big block brackets for alternater and power steering. Lots of good info.http://alangrovecomponents.com
