stock chrome valve covers on 72

Hey all,

Just wondering whether there was an option in 1972 trucks/blazers for chrome valve covers and air cleaner? My gut is telling me no, but I figured this would be the place to ask. I'm just finishing my 72 Blazer and thought I might dress up engine compartment with some chrome, but don't want to risk not being able to put collector plates on it.
Thanks

I've never heard of it, but I'm not an expert. Around here, it wouldn't make a difference for collector plates. The vehicle just has to be over 30 years old.

Wow, you have must have some really strict rules at your DMV.

I worked at a Chevy dealer around that time, and I don't recall seeing any factory chrome valve covers. That doesn't mean there weren't any, but I never saw them if there were.

I think your gonna need some paint. The rules in BC dont leave room for any modifications except factory options and safety upgrades like seatbelts and brakes.

Chevelles, impalas and such often had chrome valvecovers from the factory, if that helps!

I knew that Chevelles, etc had chrome valve covers and unsilenced (open) style air filters, (had a 67 SD Beaumont BB, and yes I sold it when baby was on the way...damn!).
I'm not sure whether putting on chrome valve covers from LMC would pass muster with ICBC in BC. Are there big differences in after market covers and original style?

Re: stock chrome valve covers on 72

We had a 72 vette come in for air care, as he had to pass for his collector plates. He had cheep chrome covers, a cheep 14" chrome air cleaner, and some horrible looking headers. ICBC gave hime his collectoer plates. I am just trying to find information as to when lifts, and big tires where first started. I want to put collector plates on one of my Blazers, But I realy want it with a bit bigger tire and some lift.

Check ICBC website. I believe you can be plus one tire size from what was 'stock' for the year. I'm running 12.50 x 15's so might be an issue. Rims can be plus or minus 1 year, so I figure my 15x8 ralleys should be okay. I think they were available 73 and up. You can run aftermarket and non stock items as long as they were available plus or minus one model year. High rise intake manifolds are a no-no. I'm gonna' apply with what I have and see what happens.

Wow. I'm sorry for you guys. Although, I'm curious, how in the world are they going to know (within reason) what's original and what isn't as long as it looks stock?
