Just bought- 1959 Chevy Fleetside NAPCO
I just bought a 1959 Napco Chevy Fleetside.
-235 6 cy -4 on the floor. -Small rear window. -Fleetside -Very orginal state. I am the 3rd owner it has stayed in Cali all but the last 4 years. I am very excited the floor pans have zero rust- i just took out the orginal carpet. Zero cancer rust. Turning it into a advertising piece for my business and i will drive it around town i am so pumped. Dropped it at paint today. Is 4800 a good price because that is what i paid. Had to drive to 15 hours to get it but well worth it, i think. Felt pretty new when i went to start it and was a little perplexed at the foot starter. I have pics just have to upload them to photo bucket i think. First time posting here. |

4800 is a good price if it's nice, original and not rusty.

Re: Just bought- 1959 Chevy Fleetside NAPCO
That's a nice truck. I think you did excellent at $4800. By rust we mean cancer- rust-through. Typically in the floor where the kick or vent panels meet the floor, in the lower door corners and in the rear corners of the cab. ALso in the "brow" area of the cab above the windshield and above the headlights.
In paint already, huh? What color scheme? Will you have the interior redone in the original color or to match the exterior? Oh, if you really want to get original tires, try Coker tires. Expensive, but they'll be right. If you're replacing all the window rubber (you should!) use Steele rubber, it fits best. Keep the photos coming. |

Re: Just bought- 1959 Chevy Fleetside NAPCO
Dan- thanks for the ego boost.
Wife said if I bought it we need to get it done asap. I said ok.... On the rust that's what I thought all is good no cancer. Going to do original paint on the inside. Outside is red with a white roof and white fleet side molding. Awesome advice on the seals I was looking to buy them today. Posted via Mobile Device |

Nice to see another 4 lighter in the forum. Looks like you did alright on the purchase. Before you replace the seals ask on here as the are two ways to put them on. Right and wrong!

I work for them in Dupont Wa. Total loss unit. There are several agents who do newer vehicles around here painted up for advertising. You can see my build labeled my 47 build on the message board.

Re: Just bought- 1959 Chevy Fleetside NAPCO
Very cool truck! I kept seeing it on craigslist wishing I could afford to buy another truck, glad you got it and are fixing it up. Are you having it stripped down to the frame to have everything rebuilt & repainted?

Re: Just bought- 1959 Chevy Fleetside NAPCO
Thanks guys!
I plan on eventually stripping it down. Honestly if it was red i would keep it with the faded paint but i am kind of putting a band aid on it right now to get it up to my office. A guy owes me a favor and is body/paint guy so he is doing it dirt cheap. I have it at my uncles shop to get the carb rebuilt fix the starter, and most likely converting it to front disc brakes. I am ordering tires soon but I am not sure how to figure if the disc brakes conversion up front will require new wheels or not. The tires i am having issues finding other than super swampers. Anyone have any ideas. |

brotha
that thing is sick..... Ifin I had to do it over I might go with jocko and make drivetrain solid and leave patina, put on old fashioned shop (ie business logo) on the door and drive the caca out of it..... I am in so deep now its to late to turn back.. I love slammed trucks but I love ol skool lifted trucks too....

Re: Just bought- 1959 Chevy Fleetside NAPCO
ps
check the cross members to see if they are riveted in or bolted in... she might be line built and not an up fit.... either way she is way cool....... also check the GVW tag on the drivers side and see what it says..... i think they increased the gvw of line built Napcos

Re: Just bought- 1959 Chevy Fleetside NAPCO
I have seen others do the disc brake conversion but I would leave it original and just to a good brake job on her.....
check out this place for some ol skool tires.... https://www.universaltire.com/truck-...ary/truck.html I thought about the bias ply route but I am leaning towards ol skool looks with modern radial off road tires....

Re: Just bought- 1959 Chevy Fleetside NAPCO
Just a quick note - when it's getting painted take ALL the rubber and glass out - that way it's done right the first time and you will save money in the long run. Very nice buy - great deal on a very solid truck.

Re: Just bought- 1959 Chevy Fleetside NAPCO
Thanks guys for suggestions and links.
I am going to use the suggestions. Took it to my uncles shop after sitting for a month at a shop that told me he was too busy to work on the carb.... My uncle said they think they replaced the floorpan but then i told him it was in cali the entire time and he said oh wow that is why it looks so good.... But then he tells me that the wheels are split wheels and are illegal so now i have to buy wheels and tires!!! any suggestions people? |

Re: Just bought- 1959 Chevy Fleetside NAPCO
baja I am thinking the same thing about the tires.
Superswampers are pretty narrow and aggressive but other than that i am unsure due to the fact i dont want wide ones because the lack of power steering. |
