All this time I thought I had a Carter carb...

Yeah, I know this sounds really stupid, but... For a long time, my uncle (who I thought used to know alot about these trucks ) kept telling that I had a Carter 4 barrel on my truck. Then today when I was cleaning up some wires under the hood, I actually looked at the carb close up and noticed that its a real Rochester QuadraJet. Actually made me quite happy, seeing as how these things go for good money nowadays, and everyone seems to rave about them.

What are the specs on Q-Jet's, i.e. flow rate, etc.?

I like rochesters, easy to tune, easy to rebuild, I can rebuild one in 45minutes. The one on your 350 is probly just 1 650 cfm, but yours is a good one because it doesnt have all the emmisions crap and a no vacum secondaries

If I'm not mistaken I think edelbrock carbs are the former carter carb, I've had good luck with them, but don't get me wrong I won many of races with a rochester

The Edelbrocks come both ways. They have the Carter AFB style, but they also have a Q-jet style. I have the Qjet style...

Which Edelbrock QJet do you have? I think they make a performance-oriented one that is higher flow than the others...

I have a #1901 on mine. Looks EXACTLY like my original one (as it should, apparently Edelbrock got the original tooling!) save for the Edelbrock tag. Rated at 750cfm.

You have a q-jet but have you looked at it real close? He still could have told you the truth... many of them say " made by Carter" right on the side

I always thought mine was a Rochester until I ran the numbers. It turned out to be a Carter.

I've never had any problems.

Well, not super duper close, but it does say "Rochester" right above the QuadraJet logo.

Also, my uncle referred to it as a Carter 4bbl to say that it was not a Q-Jet. He doesn't know that Carter also manufactured Q-Jets.

I just rebuilt a Carter AFB 9000 series carburetor, and got a brand new 1406 for my birthday. They are practically identical.

My Edelbrock is #1904 it's rated at 795 cfm. Dad had it on our 86 Blazer, but after the T-case gave out and he didn't want to pay $600 for a used one, he gave me the motor out of it.
