Edlebrock 1405 Carb

Howdy,

Truck has a 1405 carb on it and the fuel seems to be blowing by the nipple. The hose is good and so is the clamp. My guess is the gasket for the nipple is bad. Is this something I can get at Autozone? Or is there some other work around for it?

Thanks!

Re: Edlebrock 1405 Carb

I fixed it (I hope). I wrapped it in that white pvc tape used for plumbing. Stopped the leak so far.

Re: Edlebrock 1405 Carb

make sure that pvc tape wont react with fuel, if it does you could get another leak or worse a fire while youre driving

Well, what is normally used to seal up the fuel nipple?

Re: Edlebrock 1405 Carb

Just curious, where would be a good starting point on the idle mixture screws? Thanks.

EDELBROCK.COM !!! Red (and white) roll is for fuel. Blue (and white) is for water. It's 1 and 1/2 turns on an Edlebrock. I have a 1406.

Re: Edlebrock 1405 Carb

Start at 1.5 turns and go from there. If you have never tuned a carb, use a vacuum gauge and tune for highest vacuum. Use your nose too, to make sure it's not too fat at idle.

Re: Edlebrock 1405 Carb

No, I have never tuned a carb before. Sadly, I don't have a vacuum gauge either. Last carb I attempted to tune was a Q-Jet on a 305.

I found an alternative. Found a plastic/rubbery washer to use. Holding so far.

Re: Edlebrock 1405 Carb

Since I do have the 1405, I want to install a manual choke cable. Is there anything special I need to do to the carb for it accept the cable? If not, do I need to adjust the fast-idle settings for use with the manual choke?

Thanks.

Believe it or not, I have that saved on my pc. It doesn't say a damn thing about manual choke setup.

Nope. Just set your cable in with minimal movement (use zap ties to keep it from moving around). I actually changed mine to make it shorter and more direct but here is a pic if that helps.

I know it does! I've spent at least a grand in repairs since I bought my truck.

Re: Edlebrock 1405 Carb

In case you all are stumped, its missing the choke cable clamp, a screw on the top front left, and the choke linkage for the fast idle cam.

Will I need the choke cable clamp in order to use the manual choke cable?

Re: Edlebrock 1405 Carb

You're also missing the linkage rod for the secondary weights. That's what it looks like in the pics any way.

Is that on the same side as the fast idle cam? If I bought http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/1473/10002/-1 , will that give me what I need? Thanks.
