New to the board... - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

New to the site just introducing myself.
Work for a shop that build presses for the automotive industy.
Diesels and old chevy trucks is where its at for me.
I recently acquired a 72 C10 custom
traded a Jetta for it off OG owner
69,000 OG miles bought from Taylor Chevy in Lancaster, OH 2/25/72
came with full service records since new
307 3 on the tree.
The only parts changed since left the lot in 72 is tires, front brakes, clutch, and steering gear box. Everything else is as left factory
Looking foward to a full tear down and refresh ground up starting these winter.
Fairly solid for a truck in the "rust belt" typical rockers cab corners etc...
Thanks again for letting me me be a part of the group. Looking foward to gaining lots of knowledge. look fowrad to lots of question post in the future, My first older C10. I've always dealt with older VWs and Diesel VWs till now.

great truck to start with...........jus drive it a while and soak in all that history........then tear it down

That has been the plan so far. Ive put about 1100 miles on it so far. IIt has had true dual straight exhaust down so far. Been lucky havnt been pulled over yet. Being in OH winter is approaching fast. I will have 6 months of snow and frigid temps to play around with in the garage. The plan is motor refresh with #416 heads cleaned up, cam, headers, and 4 barrel. Body wise fix the rust. I have a friend that owns a media blast and powder coat shop. That's a great looking truck. I would drive it for awhile and surf around here for info and ideas.

You may want to read up on 307s a little. The bore-to-stroke ratio is less than optimal (283 bore with a 327 stroke). They respond to speed parts, but not as well as other small blocks. I've had a couple and always ended up replacing them with a 327 or 350. Anyway - it depends on your situation (money/time and whatnot).

If I knew what code to look for in a 350 Id go that route. There is 4 Pull a Part's with in a hour drive. They get $158 for any V8 complete with 30 day warranty

Being new to C10 world dont know what to look for. -Jacob-

All of my 307s have been dependable, so if money's tight, there's no reason not to go with it.

Google: "small block chevy casting numbers". Here's the first hit I got. There's several others.
