What year tailgates will fit my 1984 Fleetside GMC Pickup?
I had the original tailgate sanded, bondoed & painted on my dad's 1984 GMC 3500 single rear wheel but now the paint is peeling off.
What year tailgates will fit on this truck? This truck has the GMC lettering embossed on the left side. Thanks Frank Last edited by 2badgn; 09-14-2011 at 01:55 PM. |

I'm not sure of the cutoff, but i think it is 78 to 87 that will fit.

81-87 will fit no problem. 73-80 will need larger trunions on you bed. I think 73-76 need to have alignment tabs on the top of the tailgate removed to fit.

The trunions are the little cups on the inside of your bedsides, they're what the tailgate cups rotate inside of. They're bigger on the older tailgates, so you need to get the trunions that match the tailgate you have for your bed. The trunions are easy to change.
