I was screwing around with the truck today and FINALLY got my wipers off!!! YAY! I used a screwdriver and a hammer. I got my cowl off to clean the vent and lube the wiper linkage.
I decided while I'm under there, I may as well test the washer pump to see if it works. I took it out and wired it directly to the battery and it works. I hook a multimeter up the the power leads and turn on the ignition. -10 volts?!?!?!? Uhh... That isn't right! I switch the leads and it says a good constant 12 volts on when the ignition is on. WTF? The motor doesn't work when hooked up to the harness. Hmm.... so the wiper module is bad or the switch is bad. The more I think about it I think it is the switch. Guy at Smith Cheverolet said alot of 80's S-10s had to have the wiper switches replaced because they had this problem. A diode would fry and kill the switch. I need to replace it anyways - the chrome is wrinkled and bubbled. I did find my ground strap to the engine. I actually have one - YAY! I also found that ground spade on the e-brake. DUH! It is huge! How did I miss it? There is a little box on the firewall that has wires and a vacuum line going to it - is this the engine vacuum sensor? Maybe a cruise control thing? I'm just curious . . .
