69 Chevy Open Road Camper
Hey All - Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm picking up a 69 Chevy Camper from the in-laws next month. I don't have much info other than it has 58K miles with a 350, and no park on the trans. They are getting it road worthy (tires, tune up, brakes, etc..) for me as its in Colorado and I'm driving it back to California. I've found some great information on this site. Just looking for literature and manuals if they even still exist.
Thanks! -JG I'll try to post a pic or two later... |

Re: 69 Chevy Open Road Camper
Sounds like a great truck, can't wait for pictures.
Here is a thread with another Open Road: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=194208 Below is a brochure Chevy made that recommended what to put on the cab and chassis. The picture shows an ElDorado

Re: 69 Chevy Open Road Camper
That is a great looking truck, I love the bug deflector and the pin stripes.
You may want to look into getting rid of the split rims. They aren't horrible, but it can be challenging to find a tire shop that will work on them. Not a big deal when you are home and can pick your tire shop, but it may be a big deal when you aren't home and need an emergency repair.

Re: 69 Chevy Open Road Camper
Thanks for the info and the heads up on the rims. This is my first project, so we'll see how it goes. The plan is to have a small motorcycle strapped to the front and my BBC powered jet boat behind it for many summers to come One can dream at least!

Re: 69 Chevy Open Road Camper
Good looking motorhome. I had a chance to buy one like it way back in 1982 and passed on the deal. Now I sure wished I had bought it.
Instead we bought a Dodge Mini-motorhome, we had it for 11 years and used it a lot, but it just was not as cool as the 67-72 Chevys.

Re: 69 Chevy Open Road Camper
Nice Camper. GM had a sweetheart deal with Open Road offering them through the dealers. So,there's more of them around than others. You should be able to find some info somewhere.

Re: 69 Chevy Open Road Camper
Was doing a Google search for "Open Road Camper" and found this. This is what got me interested in and ultimately becoming an RV'er.
This is an Open Road "Monterey 13'". To me it is one of the best floorplans for a chassis-mount type camper (nowadays known as a Class C). The rear patio doors and deck aren't found anymore. My very first paying job was working for the Open Road dealer in Miami, FL cleaning and doing pre-delivery prep. That was way back in '68. Always been a Chevy fan but currently driving a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Wish I had an Open Road Monterey 13' for the mountains here in Colorado. Yeah, I did notice that this one came out of Colorado. Hope you fix it and enjoy it. basketmaker - Brighton (Denver), CO |

Re: 69 Chevy Open Road Camper
Thats a really nice looking truck. How about a few picks of the inside.Everybody shows outside, which is cool,no doubt but it would would be neat to see a picture with that deck down looking in

Re: 69 Chevy Open Road Camper
I just got one of these. It also doesn't have a park on the trans either. I do have pics of it inside and outside. Not in very good condition but it has been in my family since I was a little kid and always wanted it. The driver side wall of the camper is rotted out. It is really cool to see pics of one in good condition.

Nice camper and hello for Sacramento. I'd love to check it out once you get it home since we're in the same city.
