doing manual swap

Ok i plan on swaping in a manual 4 speed instead of a 700R4. I think I have most everything I need for it now except the pedal assembly. I have a few questions for the knowlegable here...

1...Do I need the assemebly from a manual truck or can I use the one from like an older camaro?

2...I dyno out at right around 280hp/300TQ at he wheel. Will my 4 speed saginaw take that? Running 373 gears. It is built mostly for street use alittle track time here and there.

Thank you

Re: doing manual swap

Doing the same thing right now but, I am dropping a Muncie in my toy. You will need the pedal assembly out of a 73'-84' truck if you are going with mechanical linkage. I am no expert but, the Saginaw should handle that with no problem. Some of the old circle track guys that I know say the Saginaw is a lot tougher than the Muncie. Your transmission crossmember is good as well since the length of the Sag w/ the bell housing is exactly the same as a TH350.

Make sure you get one of those # 460486 truck bell housings if you have not already done so. I had the complete bell housing / transmission from my 68' Camaro parts car that I was going to use until I found out that I would have to adjust the linkage to accomadate.

The HP on my motor may be slightly higher but, I need to swap out my 2.73 gears for a set of 3.42 gears. Let me know how it goes. I am dropping the column in my truck this weekend to swap in the complete pedal assembly.

May be some other stuff that I am forgetting. If you need some answers, give me a holler and I will run down the list that I have compiled. I think you will be happy when it's all said and done. personally, I can't wait to bang thru the gears on my Square!!!!!!!

Re: doing manual swap

This is going to be a several month parts build up as I still have while before i can do the swap...still rockin it here in afganistan.

I will lookup that bellhousing...were would I go to order that? Mine is comeing from a 60's camaro also. Tranny, bellhousing, camaro shifter with linkage. Will the shifter work in the truck or do I need to get a diffrent one? i have buckets so not worried about clearing the bench.

Also have you figured out exactly were you will have to cut your hump for the shifter yet? Thanks
