Gauge Bezel color

I would like to know what the factory color of the die cast trim ring that surrounds the gauges? I have seen black and a silver color. Does it depend on the "custom appearance" option? Also would like to know if it includes chrome knobs or black knobs.

Re: Gauge Bezel color

i've seen black with black knobs and silver with chrome knobs (assume the latter part of the custom cab option, but not positive)

One thing I've noticed on a lot of trucks is that the bezel you mention never seems to match the trim on the glovebox. Now I'm not certain how the factory did it - but they SHOULD have made those match. In other words, if the gauge bezel is silver, then so should the golvebox trim be as well, etc. If black, then black. I'm just sayin.

That's one reason I'm not a big fan of the solid chrome trim for glove boxes because was never that way from Mr. Chevy. If you're hotroddin it and put chrome trim on the glove box AND on the gauge bezel, then good on ya, that looks good too I think.

My 2 cents only - but bottom line, I like the silver bezel the best (with matching silver glove box trim, of course!), black seems to just blend into the background of the black gauges too much for my taste.

I do have to admit, I've never ever seen a white bezel, now that would be different! You got a pic tools060?

Re: Gauge Bezel color

I agree jocko. Im thinkin im gonna try black with the chrome knobs. Ive seen em chrome and even white, but they obvioulsy were done that way by the owner. The 3 trucks ive had were 66's and they were a silver(faded) color. I dont like the chrome glove box emblem. Did the factory ever "not" put on a glove box emblem? Maybe aerotruk or factory stock or oem4me can comment?
Thanks guys

Re: Gauge Bezel color

I think mine was painted white by a PO, I do like the look of it though, I'll snap a pic when I get home.

Re: Gauge Bezel color

thanks Tools, I'd like to see it - never seen one, and wondering what it'd look like. At first thought, I was thinkin "blech", but the more I think about it, it's kinda cool like white bumpers and white grilles...

Interestingly, my truck when I got it has mis-matched silver dash bezel and glovebox trim. I painted both together, kinda matching them to the glovebox trim which appeared original, and then lettered the "CHEVROLET" letters on the glovebox in black. Turned out ok I suppose. I like it anyway! But the dash bezel ended up being pretty much original (looking) when done, I think.

I'm still planning on sticking my old poncho vac gauge in the left gauge bay someday, whenever I get around to it.

Re: Gauge Bezel color

Most if not all of the '60-'63 gauge bezels I have seen were white. They are different from the '64-'66 bezels.

1960 and 1961 are Silver from the factory. In 1962 the interior changed to fawn, that's when 1962 and 1963 changed to a white gauge bezel.

Re: Gauge Bezel color

The following is what I understand from others and my own knowledge on the subject.

1960-1961 silver
1962-1963 white
1964-1965 satan black
1966 alone is silver

The astronaut has a build thread for a 1964 - 1966 cluster and he used a silver from Krylon called Sparvar S-120 that is a very close match to the silver but good luck finding it.

I am always curious what others use or suggest as I do these builds. I like to give the customer the choice of selecting colors but when they want it the perfect factory color, that leaves room for some debate.

Thank you and happy new year.

Tom

Re: Gauge Bezel color

Has anyone any experience with just a silver spray paint available at any local store? (duplicolor, krylon, or similar?)
