hmmm. Noisy clicking speedo after trans swap, any ideas?

Finally got the brakes done after taker several brake fluid showers with a power bleeder (which is now in the garbage) and got the truck back on the road after the t5 swap. Now that I installed the new speedo gear housing (with seal this time...) and the new 20" cable extension - I've got that annoying speedometer clicking noise that goes up and down relative to speed. I know these things can be picky to positioning, etc, but it wasn't making the noise before. Any ideas before I jsut disconnect the thing - it's "that" loud...? Thanks gents.

Jocko I `m assuming you only disconnected the trans end...? if there is a bend in the cable will cause that or the able it self is going dry which will cause it to stick then jump forward, try loosening it a little or remove from trans and use some light oil in the cable end, not dw-40 as it is a cutting oil...if all else fails remove whole thing soak really well with light oil and hang vertically in your garage for a few days.

Re: hmmm. Noisy clicking speedo after trans swap, any ideas?

I think you all nailed it - the only speedo cable extensions I could find were 6" (too short) and 20" (apparently too long....) I bought the 20" version - and although it is a gentle swoop into the trans - it is more abrupt than the speedo cable into the orignal 3-speed, and this is what I was afraid might happen - but thought it was worth giving the 20" (and cheap) cable extension a whirl before I yank the whole thing and try to find a more appropriate lenght single cable - need one about 10" longer than stock - but I don't know how long the stock one is til I pull it out. I really love working under the dash... Maybe it's time to stick that vac gauge in the cluster while I'm at it!

Thanks guys, you've confirmed what I figured I was gonna have to do.
