Help? Advice?

Anyone have any help to offer me?

My buddy has a 64 and we are trying to straighten the dash. The metal on the center speaker is bubbled out, and not amount of heat or hammer is getting it shruck down and straight. It's about 2 inches in diameter, 1/2" high. (no pics yet)

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? I've been hammering for two days and have it much better than it was, but it is still jacked up. I proposed cutting out the speaker/top vent and welding in a patch panel, but two problems with that:

1. it doesn't appear as if they are making any repops.

2. He wants to clear over bare metal, so the welds would have to be PERFECTLY worked over. I'm pretty good, but I don't know if I'm that good.

Re: Help? Advice?

Have you tried shrinkin the metal by heating and quickly cooling it by sticking an cold wet rag on it?

Re: Help? Advice?

Heat and hammering are going to stretch the metal. You can try a shrinking hammer and see how that does but not sure it will give you the finish you need. You may get some improvement by heating and quick quenching the spot, but not to much heat.

Re: Help? Advice?

Do you have access to a shrinking disc? They work pretty good, and don't have a tendency to overheat the metal like a torch can if you're not careful.

I assume that you have the windshield removed. That would not be a fun job if you're trying to work that speaker hole with the glass installed.

Re: Help? Advice?

I tried the heat/cold, and it did take it down a bit, but the problem is that it is on the speaker grille itself and hella bendy!

I've never used a shrinking disk, but after watching a few videos online, I don't know that it would work right there are the grille.
