another 57 lowering thread need help
Going to lower my 57 3100, and I need some info. How much further do I need to lower the rear of the truck to level it with the front? I have decided to go with a more traditional lowering job using mono leafs 3” in front 6” at rear and a 3” drop axle. I have a few more questions, first it’s looking like if I stick with a 15” rim I’m going to have no scrub line clearance. I’ll be 1/4” short (bottom of stock axle to ground 8”, minus floor to bottom edge of rim 5.25”, minus 3” of drop axle). So if I go with a 16” rim I should have ¼” of clearance on the scrub line. Is this enough clearance, seem like it’s too close? Should I go with a 17” rim? I don’t want huge rims on the truck as I’m going with a more traditional look. What are you guys running for a set up on your solid axle lowering job? I would like smoothies also but do they make them with a cap that will fit over the stock 6 lug front hub? What size rims, width, back spacing and diameter, are you using? The lowering is going to be done in stages starting with the springs and then later putting in the drop axle. I’m sure the 6 “ drop in the rear is going to be too much and will need blocks to bring it back up, What size blocks are you using ? Next the steering, the drag link is going to be an issue right? What will I need to do to correct this? Any other issues I’m going to run into with the spring part of the lowering job, and when it’s time what issues will I have with the drop axle install? Thanks for the help guys.
