Anyone used Dakota digital instrument panel
Ive been looking into the dakota digital instrument panel to replace the factory stuff. It is high priced but when compared to replacing them all with auto meter stuff its not all that much more a bite.
Wondering if anyone here has used the Dakota sutff and your thoughts on it if so. |

Re: Anyone used Dakota digital instrument panel
Two things I just bought and am installing aClassic instruments set in mine it cost alot but looks good and easy to install. I have a partially built auto meter set up that I m going to be selling soon because I went with the Classic Instrumnt set. It looks original and you get your choice of gauge design with The Classic set

Only just got it but the new VHX is nice and EZ to install. I'm installing it in my 1956. I might get one for my truck.

Re: Anyone used Dakota digital instrument panel
I have a Dakota Digital in my Burb. It is an awesome gauge setup and even gives you a trip meter. In fact, it calculates 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, and a few other odds and ends. which of course doesn't get much use in a big boat Suburban. Not much racing going on with me.
Here's my thoughts on them though. Why do they keep using that antiquated digital look? It is 80's technology. With modern computer technology, they need to come up with a aftermarket gauge setup that utilizes small computer screens. And you could link your computer to it to manipulate the backgrounds/typestyles/ and even the theme (classic numbers for some, and a modern look for others). Maybe even allow a little personalization, like the truck's name in the background of the speedometer. Just think how cool that would look?! Has anyone seen anything like this? I guess I am getting bored with my Dakota setup. (and the green digital numbers don't match my stereo screen, my Sirius radio screen, or the led's in my dome light switches ---> all blue) haha! Re: Anyone used Dakota digital instrument panel
They Don't do all the computer hook stuff probaly because most us old gear heads have no idea how to do 99% of that. We are lot more comfortable with simple things we can see and touch. Me if I can bolt it and plug it in and it works its great.

Re: Anyone used Dakota digital instrument panel
I have had there gauges in my 56 Chevy truck for about 15 years and they went out last August. I called tech support and could not get them up and running again so I shipped them in to get fixed. After they checked them out found out that the control panel was fried so they built me a new one at no charge and shipped it back out to me. They have great customer service, wish more companies worked like them.

Re: Anyone used Dakota digital instrument panel
I never liked the original Dakota Digital gauges they had for our trucks as I prefer the analog type. I have been squirrling money away to get a new dash for my truck and was going to go with "Classic Instruments" gauge setup that they designed for our trucks and was going to get the G-Stock gauges. Now after seeing the VHX I really like them especialy seeing you are getting the best of both worlds with the analog gauges and digital odometer etc. so I'll have to squrirrel a little longer.
