[Smog Update] Their may be light at the end of the tunnel!!

Well, I called the California Bearua of Automotive Repair today, and spoke to them about finding an EGR Valve (Dual Diaphragm/Vacuum) for me (Because they have a "Hard To Find Emission's Parts Locator"), the guy I spoke to said first off, "It's not a dual vacuum is it?" and I said "Yep, that's it." and he said "Good luck man, those don't even EHXIST anymore!". So, I'm getting what's called a "Limited Parts Exemption". But I told them, that without that EGR Valve functioning properly, the truck's not gonna pass the sniffer test, and the guy said "Then once the smog referee see's that the EGR Valve isn't working, he'll just pass you without testing it at all."
I guess California Smog Junk has loopholes in it afterall! Yipee!! Only thing bad, is it takes 3-5 days for them to VERIFY that the part really IS unavailable, then it'll take another 2 days for them to mail me the sticker...at least it's GOING to get smogged soon.

You are lucky!
I wish I could do away with my smog stuff, any of it.
My first choice would be the AIR system, then Id choose EGR, then cat would be last.

Glad to hear its not going to be a problem for you!

Fill me in, why did you need a dual EGR valve instead of what Im guessing is the normal single EGR valve?

Because mine came factory with the dual feed EGR valve. See, 99% of all 74-87 C10's came with the single feed (normal one) and therefore 99% have AIR tubes on the exhaust manifolds. Now MY 1% truck came factory with the dual feed, therefore mine didn't come factory with AIR tubes on the exhaust manifolds. My AIR tubE goes from the AIR pump down into the drivers side exhaust pipe (right behind collector) When I took it in to the referee station to get smogged the tech asked me why I didn't have AIR Tubes, and I said "Dunno, didn't have em from the factory." and he said "That's impossible, ALL trucks have AIR tubes...now cars, some CARS don't have AIR tubes, but that's only cuz they're cars." So, a few minutes later he came back and said "ok, I did some research and you may have the RAREST truck of all. Your truck came factory with the dual feed EGR, which means you don't have AIR tubes, but your EGR is broken and you need to replace it." So, since THEY DO NOT EXHIST, I get a "limited parts exemption" for my EGR valve...but since the EGR valve is so important in making my tailpipe test pass clean, I basically just get exempted from the entire test.

It only applies to MY truck. People that have my EXACT SAME TRUCK, I imagine can do the same in California. But as of 1/1/04, 75 model year vehicles don't have to be smogged anymore, so...
