Took my first drive in a C10 yesterday

Since I joined this forum back in the summer, I have been reading and learning about these trucks. I would like to get one but have not determined if I want one to keep original, or one ot modify.

One popped up for sale in my area that was a 66 C10 LWB BBW. It looked pretty solid, so I went to look at it.

I have an old corvette, and drive a 6 speed manual every day, but I have never driven a 3 on the column. I took my dad along since that is what he learned to drive on and he "schooled" me on how to drive it.

It was a very original looking truck. It looks like it sat for a long time, and someone cleaned it up to flip and make money. Painted valve cover, new tires, plywood in bed, spray painted engine compartment fenders, and possibly repainted roof point to this. The odo says 38K but, im not sure if that is orignal. The truck is from Washington, but looks very very solid. I saw very little rust.

It was definitely interesting driving the truck.

That is a nice looking ride! Just my .02, with a truck that original and untouched, Id go back original. Its alot easier for me to take the knife to a truck that is missing alot of its original pieces, and has already been altered a bit. If it was me, Id hang the factory color back on it and let'er eat.

that's a very nice truck - despite the roof repaint and other obvious flip items you mentioned, it could very well be a 38K original - but hard to say. Looks to be some rot in the roof area (near A-pillar) so I'd take a good look at it, especially where PO painted. Did you buy it or are you still thinkin about it?

BBW + Gauges + not reall rusty = pretty nice truck. If you care to share how much he's asking, I'm sure you'd get a hundred opinions on whether or not it's worth it, but it's all up to you!

The truck is priced at a little less than 4K. I tapped the roof area and it sounded hollow, but I am not really sure what to look for when it comes to A piller rust. The rubber around the windsheild looks old, but not terrible.

Pull back the rubber slightly at the seam where that pic is, that will give you a clue, the top is hollow, an inner and outer skin, its the seam all around the top and the front seam at the windsheild are what your really concerned with.

Bottom of A-pillar also will be thin/lumpy if there's been rain running down the inside...although that isn't the end of the world if you have a competent body man.
Nice truck, i'd go 2500-3000...no more though.

Thanks for the replies. I think I have decided to pass on the truck. It is just too original for me to cut up or modify into what I want.
