F### crown vic axle swap????

Hey guys -- one more question lol

I have a 1998 crown vic --was my daliy driver (summer cruizin in 1971 blazer)...

I just bought a 1986 s10 and would really like to salvage a bunch of the good parts of my c vic police car.....It has brand new brake pads and rotors, and brand new tires----

I know that 'anything' is possible, but a bit of advice from this crowd could save me more headaches than its worth--

I pick up the s10 tomorrow and will measure the axle etc.....

What I am really wanting to know is if there is a simple way to connect the rearend to my s10 drive shaft.....
thanks
jon

There are conversion u joints. That will work or you can have your drive shaft re-worked at any good driveline shop. Any particular reason why you want to use that rear end?

Re: F### crown vic axle swap????

John, couple of issues. First, the 8.8 rear is a FORD rear. Breaks the laws of common sense. Second, a Vic is a 4 link rear, the S10 is leaf springs. So if the width isa doable you would still have to cut the spring perches off that 7.5 28 spline diff and weld them on the Viv 8.8. On the plus side that 8.8 31 Spline is tough as nails. But so would an 8.5 28 spline out of a Bravada or Zr2 S10 would be a bolt in.

Re: F### crown vic axle swap????

Thansk For the advice, once I get the truck home I will see what I can do with measurements etc. SO-- there are 2 things here to think about:

1) if the measurements are close, a simple u-joint swap may work....plus a bit of fab for shock mounts maybe?
2) or custom driveshaft.....sounds expensive........any rough guesses on the cost of this?

The reason that I would like to do the swap is mostly for fun, but also for frugality (axle swap or fix up s10 axle and buy good set of winter tires on rims....whatever would be cheaper at the end of the day!):

I have owned the ford for almost 10years, and I am ready to send it to scrap-- ex-police car, pig on gas, starting to rust again (My first to metal paint job in 2002), gas leak at tank, etc etc......but I want to salvage as much of the old girl as possible, and I have put a bunch of new parts over the last year or so.

I plan to use the battery (new) for the s10, the electric fan for the blazer, and hopefully my heavy duty rear axle with brand new winter tires, and disccs for the s10--

Then, I just send the rest for scrap and see what happens!

Keep the advice comin......

Re: F### crown vic axle swap????

yes I know the idea of a F!@# axle is blasphemous......but in the spirit of rodding, and learning some fun things.....lets keep the thread goin' especially since these C vic axles are quite common, disc brakes, and like said-- tough as nails--

thanks,
jon
