What's on the truck VIN? Read something about the letter before the year somewhere.

"h" stands for 23,000 GVW, the "68" is for a 197 inch wheelbase cab/ chassis

this is the heaviest/longest "C" series available in 64, comes stock with a 292, with the 327, and 348 2bbl as options.

Re: Another weird 64 VIN, help! please

here in mt there is a form you can fill out and have inspected.. you just show the inspection officer that it is no longer a 2 1/2 ton , they inspect it and re assign the vin to a 1/2 ton status, then you don't have to pay the higher fees for licensing a heavier truck.
they usually need a bill of sale for the chassis too. then they just assign all the #'s to that one vehicle.

Re: Another weird 64 VIN, help! please

I wish it was that easy here in NC. I have titles and bill of sales for the frame and cab. If I do it as a antique then I can have it inspected and it will be registered as that. NC wants all the money it can get, so it goes with the heaviest. So antique it will be when I get to that point.
