Re: 1983 bench seat replacement ?
I've seen trucks with benches from the 88+ trucks in them not sure what it took to make them work, i'm thinking of using the 90 454 bucket seats in mine seen that done and liked the way it looked

Re: 1983 bench seat replacement ?
The bench seats from 88-98 trucks kinda fit. They don't look right to me since the cab is wider on the squarebody trucks but they will go in there with some custom bracketry.

Re: 1983 bench seat replacement ?
if you want to engineer some mounts, you can make it fit.. i put a 94 bench in my 73 without a lot of trouble. no welding or duct tape required

If you are buying a seat, look for a 2000 and up Silverado/Sierra seat with integral seat belts. I think you will need to fabricate brackets and the seat will likely sit up higher, but those seats are much better. Worth checking the junkyards and taking some measurements IMO.

Re: 1983 bench seat replacement ?
Ok, I did this today and it's not easy but you will need a nice junk yard. If you want buckets in your truck find two beach seats, from the same year around 83-85 I would say, take the brackets off those two bench seats. One off the left side and the other off the right. Don't worry about the little wire you pull to make the whole seat move up you can make that again out of hanging wire yes it's that simple.
Then find the seats you want to use try to stay with chevy if you can but if not just make sure your brackets line up with the seats them selves you will have to take the brackets off the new seat because you will not use those. I will be posting pics on the build until it is done. |
