What is this?

Found this tucked up out of the way while changing the leaking low oil pressure switch (near the oil filter) on my '87 4.3 Silverado. The wire is in the same plastic corrugated conduit as the pressure switch pigtail. It is some sort of round snap connector (part of the outer cover seems to be missing), the tan-ish inner surround is some sort of flexible rubber-like material, and the center "probe" is metal.

Just can't figure out where this is supposed to go. Can anyone clue me in? Go ahead, make me feel foolish. And thank you.
