Stumped on vin #

I got in a 71 blazer. Vin # is CE181S656295 on the inside vin plate. But the blazer is a 4X4 and the tranny hump is a low hump-no hole. Could it be someone changed frames? If it is a 4X4 the numbers should be CK right?

Re: Stumped on vin #

I does sound like there was a frame/body swap.. the vin you posted along with the low hump clearly indicates the body is/was a 2WD. IF you look above the steering box on the frame rail there should be a partial vin #

Re: Stumped on vin #

It would be KE as a 4X4. Looks like a 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive Blazer vin assembled in St. Louis. The 8 signifies it as a Blazer, K as a 4X4, E as a V8 1 as 1/2 ton and S signifying assembly plant.
