Air ride help!

I just added another 5 gallon tank and new dual viair 480's. Question is that why now from 5 gallons of air to 10 gallons that my compressors still kick on just from the first lift. I have 9 switches and from the middle switch which is pancake and lifts the truck up front and back at one time the compressors kick on? That was the whole reason I added another 5 gallon tank to make a total of 10 gallons cause it did that on just the 5 gallon. So what's going on? I thought I would have more switch play? And its a 86 1/2 ton by the way with a 165 on and 200 off psi pressure switch by the way.

you are loosing 35psi+ whenever you fill from a pancake switch. the only difference is now, your compressors will not need to run as long to refill your tank.

also... before, with one 5 gallon tank, if you lifted all 4 at one time, you were loosing more air. now that you have 10 gallons of air, when you lift all 4 at one time, you have more air remaining in the tanks, allowing you more play time before your tanks empty.

one thing that can help to allow maximum play before compressor comes on is putting the valves as close to the bags as possible. a lot of dudes will run the each valve right next to the bag it controls. that way when you fill the bags, you are only filling the bag and not the line running to it from the tank. hope this helps!

So what you are saying is either way with the first lift the compressors are going to kick on, doesn't matter if its a 5 or 10 gallon tank?

pretty much. since it only takes a drop of 35 psi in your tanks to turn the compressor on.

When you deflate the truck only deflete til the truck stops moving, not til all the air is out of the bags. This helps with the inflation, you have to put less air back in to inflate back to ride height.

I usually overfill the back using the all up switch. I lift front then the back and only use the middle switch for going down or straddling roadkill. Seems to be more efficent on air this way.

Ok so, I was messing with the truck again today and just lifted the frontend and the compressors still kicked on? This was from a full 10 gallons of air, is this right?

yeah. if you want to be able to play without running the compressor you should look into hooking up a nitrogen tank.

Do you have gauges on the tanks to see if they're dropping down to 165psi or actually filling to 200psi?

If you want a full lift without the comps coming on it sounds like you need even more volume (if everything is working correctly). How long are your lines and what size?

I went with a york so at least I don't have to hear the compressors run and it makes make air like the dickens. Won't do 200 psi though. 145 is all I run.

No gauges and my line is 3/8, back is about 3 ft long on each side coming off the valve and the front is about 7ft beings my tanks and vavles are in the rear end of my truck.
