8 inch lift questions

ive been told the handling sucks with them?

for the guys on here with 8+ inches of spring lift how does it ride, well not really ride, im not worried about bouncing around, but steering, thats where i heard the problems are on street? is this true even if i take the proper steps to correct it?

do i need to legnthen driveshafts?

If your springs are really stiff, then steering will need to be addressed, but not a huge issue. You'll need a drop pitman arm (Off Road Design sells them), a "S" drag link, and a rise "J" arm. If they're soft springs, its a whole new set of problems.

You SHOULD swap to cross over steering, but may be able to do without it. Cross over is costly. Not doing cross over will cause bump-steer. Also you will only be able to turn well in one direction. That is because the steering geometry is so far from what it was designed to do.

Read this thread below for some input. We had this discussion regarding 12" springs. All the same things apply for 8" springs.

If you take the proper steps to fix the steering, it will work better than stock, even with the lift. You WILL need to lengthen the front drive shaft.

In my experience, 6" and over NEEDS crossover steering. With leaf springs, the longer and flatter they are, the smoother they ride. With more lift you get more arch. The further away from flat they get, the rougher they will ride.
