What are all the in line 6 guys using for mufflers?

I'm about to put the Clifford Performance headers & their x-pipe on my 250 straight six & was wondering what kind of mufflers make that motor sound muscular & throaty. I'm not looking for real loud just a nice rumble.

Re: What are all the in line 6 guys using for mufflers?

We had assembled the whole truck in 24hrs with seven guys to put it in a local show. A requirement was to have an exhaust system in order to attend. The muffler shop at the time ( 1999 ) had only two resonators for an International Farm tractor. We decided to chase duals from the 3-1 headers to the resonators under the cab and out the back of the rear drivers side tire as in the style of the original inline exhaust tip location using 2 1/4" pipe.
2009 we decided to install the Dyno-Max X muffler. It changed the sound from the rasp of the resonators to a smoothed out sound. I did prefer the sound of the old resonators over the Dyno-Max X. I'm going to try adding a second Dyno-Max X to see if it can muffle the sound at idle. The single Dyno-Max X is to loud.

Video soundtrack has the Single Dyno-Max.

Re: What are all the in line 6 guys using for mufflers?

I've used the dual inlet/dual outlet Dynomax mufflers on previous customer dual exhaust inline 6s with excellent results. A friend of mine recently also used them on his 292 ci conversion and really likes the sound attenuation level while still keeping the aggressive note, and has no drone.

A turbo tube muffler the exhaust shop had in stock. Sounds good.

Summit flowtech headers into a pair of 2' cherry bombs followed by 4' of pipe-sounds like a harley, nice and loud, no drone, puts a smile on my face every time I turn the key.

Check out Borla ATAK, SLP Loudmouth 1, Bassani, Magnaflow Magnapacks, & Corsa. Chamberd mufflers sound different than canaster style. Canaster style sound better to me on I6 & V6. The smaller the Muffler HOUSING (Height & Width) the greater the exhaust sound. The larger HOUSINGS emit quieter exhaust notes.

I've got a old Dodge Caravan muffler on mine, the exhaust is a little cobbled but its pretty quiet. Still has a nice thump and rumble though.

Just run tailpipes out the back bumper then it will only be obnoxious to someone behind you. Run the long glass-packs and it will be quieter...Vernski

Re: What are all the in line 6 guys using for mufflers?

I'm going to run those porter mufflers are have been advertised in classic trucks. Made in USA, look nice, hope they sound good. Anyone else try them before?
