brakes
Hello all....I have an problem that I am not sure how to fix. I bought a rear axle with disc brakes on it and put it in my pickup, I replaced the proportioning valve and I still cant get it too stop.....also when I set my emergency brake it will not hold the truck, even though I have the cable tightened all the way

Re: brakes
Did you check for leaks in the system?
Also what kind an where did you put the proportioning valve. Rear brakes only get used when you slam on the brakes. The front brakes dont engage at all. What year truck is it, an what is your current set up. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: brakes
there are no leaks in the system, I replaced the master cylinder with a disc disc application master and I also put in a disc/disc proportioning valve directly after the new master, but the proportioning valve is not adjustable it is for both front and rear....My pickup is a 72 gmc k1500. I bought a rear axle and the brake calipers and rotors were converted to Cadillac or that is what my local napa auto parts said when they checked the numbers on the calipers to get new pads.

Re: brakes
Yes your prop valve is preset and runs 70% to front and 30% to rear.
If you are using caddy calipers off an edorado They work off the emergency brake. you have to set the brake every time you park to get them to adjust them. They work off a cam system inside the caliper. they have to be 30 thousands of an inch from the pad to the rotor. If you don't they will get your brakes out of adjustment and not work. You may still not have all the air out also. clamp off the hose in the rear and see how much pedal you have. if its not good the problem is somewhere else up front Last edited by mbgmike; 12-11-2011 at 03:16 PM. |
