Does anyone know of a chrome tailgate protecter ( cap) that goes over the top of the tailgates to dress it up a bit like the newer trucks?. thanks

I know they have them for step sides. I would guess they have them for fleet. I would try Classic Industries or LMC.

any of the vendors on here have them.got one from Brothers for my lwb fleetside.in stainless.hope this helps

thanks for the input, but I still don't see a chrome cap for my 65 short bed stepside. I would like the cap that fits on top of tailgate not the inside of tailgate. I looked at all and still don't see one.

I have one, you need to just get one that will fit the contour ( most will) and you will need to trim it on the inside a bit to fit around the rear stake pocket.

This doesn't state it will fit your '65, but they're virtually the same tailgate from '55 to '87. This will fit fine.
