Made some progress on the truck today and took it for it's maiden voyage
Well I had some time today at the shop so I pulled the 71 gmc in and got some work done on it. I started by pulling the rear wheels and drums off and cleaned the brakes up, truck had set for a long time and they were grabbing some. After that I noticed that the gargantuan rear bumper was weld on along with the bolts so I got out the 6" cutoff wheel and went to town. I just cut it off around the frame and will cut the rest off when the bed is off. Also took out the spare tire carrier and spare that the bent the crap out of when the added extra braces to the rear bumper. I also took the home made step off the pass side, then it was time fora it's first trip to town since I got the truck and probably in several years. Stop off at the car wash and scrubbed the heck out of it and got most of the moss, tree sap, and mildew off of it. After I got it cleaned up I pulled the tail light and back up lenses off and cleaned then up and painted the backings with some chrome spray paint to brighten them up. All in all a good day.
On to the pics And check out the custom extra snout on the breather Posted via Mobile Device

That helps with the scrap prices!
This is the part of getting a new truck that I like. Taking off all the junk and making the truck "your own". What's next?

Ya that rear bumper should bring a pretty penny at the scrap yard, I'm a big guy and it took some effort to drag it out of the shop.
Hopefully tomorrow I can pull the front wheels off and check out the suspension and brakes. Maybe clean up the insides too. Posted via Mobile Device

Nice truck. Looks good with no bumper. I got rid of my uglyass step bumper and I'm just gonna leave it bare in back it looks cool I think.

The only bad part without all that weight on the back is now it looks like it sits about an inch higher.

That's a good looking truck. Maybe you should put a factory bumper on the rear.

I love step bumpers on our trucks that are used as trucks, but even I will have to admit that particular bumper isnt the prettiest lol.
