79 Silverado

Hey guys, I'm in Texas and new to this forum. I bought this 79 silverado several months ago. Im putting a beefed up rebuilt 350 in it right now. I plan on doing a few upgrades to the rest of the truck like maybe a solid back glass, new rear bumper and lowering it. The main thing i was wondering is what everyone thought about the color of my truck, its not my favorite. You can be honest and won't hurt my feelings. I was thinking about making it 2 tone and doing white down the middle and the cab white also and leaving the rest as it is. Here is a short video of the truck. Thanks guys

Welcome to the forum. Nice rig. I like the color too. If its not in a too bad shape, I'd spit shine it a bit and invest the 3 grand + into something else rather then a paint job.

Wow, that thing is in great shape! I would just shine it and enjoy that paint. As mentioned above, you could spend that 3K elsewhere.

Re: 79 Silverado

I used to not like that color back in the 80's, but nowadays I like it a lot, it has grown on me, but also i note it isnt one of the stock colors available on cars nowadays. you cant get those old colors nowadays, mostly people get grey gold white and med-to-dark blue. makes these old colors seem more appealing these days.

Nice truck man, I like the color too. Agree with you on the solid back glass too, crappy old rattling leaking slider was one of the first things to go on mine too.

Re: 79 Silverado

Great lookin truck! Nice color like it is. Nice interior with an uncut dash. Get a stock 79 grill with the dual chrome stips on it.

Re: 79 Silverado

I really dig the color. Cars these days are cookie cutter copies of one another, always white, silver, or black. I much prefer cars from the 60's and 70's that have unique colors. They stand out and grab your attention. Besides, color swaps are such a pain. Doing the dash, the inner doors, the jambs, etc. Ugh. If the stock paint is decent, do what you can to save and preserve it and spend your money on better things (engine, suspension, wheels and tires, etc).

Re: 79 Silverado

I completely agree with the others on the paint. Shine it up and enjoy it. I walked a local Chevy lot on a Sunday a while back and all the trucks were black, white, silver and red...that's it! $40,000 pieces of cookie cutter plastic. Don't get me wrong, I love my black 78, but your truck is classy and different and I love it. However, it is your truck and you can do whatever you want to it. If you like it, that's all that matters. BTW, welcome to the board.

Re: 79 Silverado

My 85 was factory gold (desert sand) and I'm eventually putting it back real close to the factory color. There's a few gold trucks here, but not many and I hardly ever see one around my area. So of course my vote is leave it the factory color. Nice truck.

My vote goes to keeping the paint the color it is! It looks cool and vintage!
