Super Clean Degreaser
We use that stuff a lot. If you use it straight, you'll strip the paint off the motor as well. We cut it down 1/10 with water and put it in a spray bottle. Works well for cleaning brake dust off of wheels and a general degreaser and cleaner.

Re: Cleaning up the motor...what to use?
I amuse the engine bright DEGREASER not the cleaner works well for me. I use a wire brush and usually have the engines out of the vehicle. Then I use vht engine enamel and a clear coat and fix any oil leaks and the engines stay rather clean. Another think to look into is one of those high pressure steam cleaners detail shops use. Those are the best

+1 on the Easy Off. It eats all the gunk off your engine. Just be careful about getting it in your eyes, trust me.

It would probably eat your spark plug wires, so I'd be careful. That stuff's pretty strong.

Add another vote for the oven cleaner. It really works wonders. I've used it on a few now. You can pick it up at a dollar general for a couple bucks a can. Get 2 or 3 cans and apply liberally.
