gas tank sitting for long time

I need some help from you guys. I decided im going to use the behind the seat gas tank so I pulled it out because by the smell of it you could tell there was old gas in it. After pouring that old gas out I noticed a black sticky substance on the bottom of the tank. I have no idea how to take that stuff out. Im guessing some kind of solvent that I can slush around but im clueless. Any idea?

I found the sending unit pretty cheap so im replacing that too.

Re: gas tank sitting for long time

There might be a better idea but I think I would try a 1/2 gallon of fresh gas and slosh it around, see what comes out.

Re: gas tank sitting for long time

I would take that tank out and to your local Radiator guy, He will put it in a tank and clean it out for you and check all the lines to make sure if they are open or plugged.

You get it back it will be clean.

I took a few Gas tanks to my Radiator guy he charged me $30-$40
