air tools...
question about stuff like die grinders/air hammers/da sanders...
ive seen some really cheap air stuff and some pricey stuff..now ive always layed out the cash for decent hand tools like craftsman stuff and "big ticket" stuff like my Miller MIG welder. is there really much quality diff between these? they all look the same but w/ diff labels on em. any comments?

yes there definatly is a difference in quality. just like anything else you get what you pay for. engersol roland (sp?) makes very nice air tools. as does snap on, i think snap on air tools might even be made by engersol roland.

I had a snap-on tool guy tell me once that all U.S. made air tools are made by ingersoll-rand or chicago pneumatic. At least that is what he told me.

Ingersol Rand all the way! I have some others, Craftsman, Husky, Florida Pneumatic, Chigaco Pneumatic, and Harbor Freight. All of the name brand ones are OK, but the IR is definitely the best IME.

Yea, I was also told there are two basic types I don’t know how true that was but most on the market do seem to be patterned after IR and CP.
In my opinion Ingersol Rand is by far the best all around but Snap-on air tools (probably patterned after IR) are good as well. I have never used Husky or Florida Pneumatic but I will take your word there not as good. When I was in heavy equipment, I was consistently able to break loose those stubborn bolts with my 1/2 inch IR impact over 3/4 inch CP impacts. The 1/2 inch stuff made by "others" didn't even hold a candle. The only thing that even came close was Snap-on. For what that’s worth, I only own IR air tools because there is a difference in quality IMHO… Pete.

Since were on the subject, does craftsman warrant their air tools also?I went through a 3/8 ratchet and a 1/2 impact wrench today.

hahaha, did i screw up that spelling or what? engersol roland = ingersol rand. i am such an idiot anyway, thats what we use and they work great. kunckle buster - i think craftsman air tools have a limited warrente, they aren't life warenteed like hand tools.

My theory is this, if you are making a living with them(tools) buy the best you can afford. but if its something that you may use once in a while, then harbor freight or some of the other companies tools can get you by. You can have three or four different tools for the price of one snap-on, besides if it brakes
look at all the money you saved you can buy another.LOL |

I have a few different ones. I have a Husky Impact, which has been very good. I have some CP from harbor freight that have been working fine for years. I dont use them alot, but when I do they are there and work flawlessly. I also have a few matco air tools I got at a screamin' price. I havent had any problems at all with any of them.
If you dont plan on using them all day everyday dont fork out the big bucks. If you plan to use them alot I would spend the extra money on them, it would be worth it.
